Syrian Airlines receives first two Airbus A320-family aircraft in fleet renewal push

Syrian Airlines has taken delivery of the first two of eight Airbus A320-family aircraft at Damascus International Airport as part of a fleet-renewal programme linked to the airport’s wider development project with Urbacon Holding. The aircraft, YK-AKI and YK-AKJ, are both 156-seat A320s and previously operated in Europe before undergoing inspection, maintenance and technical checks ahead of delivery.

Omar al-Hosari, Syria’s civil aviation chief, described the handover as a practical step in rebuilding the national carrier and lifting operating capacity after years of reduced activity. The airline is still completing crew readiness, maintenance preparations and ground-handling arrangements before entering the aircraft into service.

The remaining six aircraft will follow in stages, with no timetable disclosed. Syrian Airlines expects the renewal programme to support new destinations, higher frequencies on existing routes, better schedule reliability and more passenger choice, although it has not yet identified which routes the first two jets will serve.
