SyberJet Aircraft has claimed an unofficial east-to-west transcontinental speed record in the US after its SJ30-2 flew from Jacksonville, Florida, to San Diego, California in about 4 hours and 7 minutes. The company put the aircraft’s average speed at 505.3 mph, or 813.2 km/h, with pilot Gordon “Gordy” Bryan at the controls and CEO Trevor Milton on board.
The claim falls under the FAI’s C-1.f class for powered landplanes in the 6,000 to 9,000 kg weight range. SyberJet expects certification from the National Aeronautic Association and the FAI in about 90 days, leaving the result provisional until ratification is completed.
The company identified the previous benchmark as an Embraer Phenom 300 record set in 2013. The SJ30-2 has long been positioned at the fast end of the light-jet segment, where speed records can support visibility among corporate and private operators looking for short-route efficiency.
