SpiceJet Lessors Invoke IDERA to Deregister Four Boeing 737-8 MAX Aircraft

Two Dublin-based lessors, Sky High LXXX and Sky High LXXVII Leasing Company Ltd, filed IDERA applications on 9 July 2026 with India’s DGCA to deregister four grounded Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft leased to SpiceJet, specifically VT-MAX, VT-MXA, VT-MXB, and VT-MXC. The DGCA issued public notices on 10 July 2026, fulfilling the statutory requirement under Indian law to inform the public of deregistration requests triggered by lease rental defaults. Under IDERA provisions, the DGCA must cancel registration within five working days of the declared default date, enabling the lessors to reclaim and export the aircraft without court intervention. SpiceJet confirmed the four MAX units remain non-operational, so deregistration eliminates lease costs without impacting current operations, while the airline continues defending multiple insolvency applications from creditors.
