Somon Air has received its first Boeing 737-8 in Dushanbe, giving the Tajik carrier its first Boeing 737 MAX and the first 737 MAX in Tajikistan. The aircraft is the first of two 737-8s leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise and will support the airline’s fleet-modernisation and network-expansion plans.
The handover took place on 3 August 2026, with the narrowbody intended for short- and medium-haul flying across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Boeing linked the aircraft to Somon Air’s broader fleet-renewal strategy, while Dubai Aerospace Enterprise chief executive Firoz Tarapore described the event as the delivery of the airline’s first 737-8 and the first 737-8 in the country.
Somon Air had previously disclosed plans to add two Boeing MAX aircraft in July and August 2026, alongside a wider renewal programme that also includes the 787 Dreamliner. The latest delivery gives the airline a new-generation type for regional growth, but no revenue-service start date has been set out for the aircraft.
