Schiphol will take the Buitenveldertbaan out of service for routine maintenance from 31 August to 8 September, with the runway unavailable on weekdays and open again for traffic during the weekend of 5-6 September. The Amsterdam airport will inspect and maintain asphalt, markings, electrical systems, cables, drainage and lighting while traffic is redistributed across its runway network.
Departures are expected to move mainly to the Kaagbaan, while arrivals will be handled primarily by the Schiphol-Oostbaan. Other runways may also be used depending on wind conditions and operational needs. The temporary rerouting is likely to alter local noise patterns around the airport, which Schiphol flagged as part of the maintenance period.
The Buitenveldertbaan is one of Schiphol’s key runways, making the short closure operationally significant even though it is scheduled as part of the airport’s annual maintenance cycle. The work comes as Schiphol continues regular upkeep across its runway system to keep the airport available for traffic and limit longer-term disruption.
