Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce have agreed to pursue a sovereign combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme, widening the industrial base behind the country’s next-generation fighter push. The two groups will work on design, development, manufacturing and delivery for the engine, while also examining plans for a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India to support propulsion technology and production.
The partnership aligns with India’s drive for indigenous military propulsion capability and positions Reliance alongside one of the world’s established engine makers in a sector that has long relied on imported technology. Rolls-Royce intends the proposed India facility to serve as a centre of excellence for aerospace gas turbines, covering testing, production and through-life support as well as core engineering work.
The companies have framed the project as an industrial collaboration rather than a final procurement award. No financial terms were disclosed, and the announcement did not confirm any government contract selection for the AMCA engine programme.
