Qantas and Melbourne Airport have struck a commercial deal that clears the way for terminal expansion, lounge renewal and a third runway backed by a 15-year airline commitment. The package underpins Melbourne Airport’s A$4.5 billion international terminal build, including five additional widebody gates, faster check-in, automated bag drop and improved border processing, while Qantas plans to base some A350-1000LRs in Melbourne to open new international sectors. A new International Business Lounge above Terminal 2 is set for delivery by 2029, and Jetstar gains room to expand under the same framework. Final agreements still need execution in the coming months.
