The Port of Seattle has authorised initial funding for a $2.5 billion overhaul of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s S Concourse, the airport’s main international-processing area. The first funding tranche totals $1.1 billion through 2029, while major construction is due to begin in 2027 and continue in phases to around 2034.
The project, known as S Concourse Evolution, will remodel the former South Satellite while keeping most of its 12 gates in service during construction. The operational plan calls for no more than three gates to be affected at any one time, with a temporary S Annex east of the building handling ground boarding.
The work sits within the wider Upgrade SEA capital programme and is being financed through the airport enterprise model rather than taxpayer funding. The package combines the Airport Development Fund with future revenue bonds, extending a long-term modernisation strategy at one of the US West Coast’s key international gateways.
