Ontario International Airport has secured $4,147,752 from the US Federal Aviation Administration to expand clean-energy infrastructure at its Ontario, California hub. The funding, awarded under the Voluntary Airport Low Emissions programme, will support electric ground support equipment charging installations at Terminals 2 and 4 and covers the FAA’s full 75% eligible share of the project.
The airport’s total charger project budget rises to $5.53 million once Ontario International Airport’s required match is included. The grant is the third VALE award the airport has received in as many years and its largest to date.
The project is aimed at replacing conventional fuel-powered support equipment with electric charging infrastructure for aircraft servicing on the ground. Airport operations around electric ground support equipment are a growing focus for US airports seeking to cut local emissions while modernising apron-side infrastructure.
