Lufthansa’s third A340-600 leaves Düsseldorf for Teruel

Lufthansa A340-600 D-AIHW left Düsseldorf for Teruel, Spain, on Friday, becoming the third of the airline’s four remaining aircraft of the type to depart the German airport. The roughly 18-year-old aircraft stopped in Düsseldorf for the removal of parts that could be reused or sold before its onward flight. Only D-AIHZ remained in Düsseldorf after D-AIHW’s departure.

D-AIHX and D-AIHY had left earlier. The aircraft are due to be stored in Teruel, although no further details of their storage arrangements or eventual disposal have been specified.

The movements follow Lufthansa’s withdrawal of the A340-600 from scheduled passenger service and form part of the wind-down of its remaining fleet. The departure of D-AIHW leaves one of the four aircraft that had been in Düsseldorf still at the airport.
