Lufthansa’s Airbus A350-900 in the airline’s 100-year anniversary livery diverted to Nuremberg on 21 August after bad weather disrupted arrivals into Munich, before continuing to its destination shortly afterwards. The aircraft, D-AIXL, had been operating flight LH743 with passengers on board and made an unscheduled stop at Nuremberg Airport before resuming the journey to Munich.
The diversion was one of at least two inbound weather-related reroutings on the day, alongside a Royal Air Maroc Boeing 737 that also ended up in Nuremberg. The Lufthansa widebody departed Nuremberg at around 18:32 and reached Munich about 26 minutes later, placing a rare special-livery aircraft on stand at the alternate airport in a move visible to spotters. The incident underlines how rapidly adverse conditions at a major hub can trigger short-notice diversion traffic and operational knock-on effects at nearby airports.
