Lockheed Martin has completed a second successful flight test of its Joint Reduced Range Rocket, or JR3, advancing a low-cost training round for U.S. Army HIMARS and M270 launcher crews. The test, linked to Yuma Proving Ground, extends the company’s effort to provide a reusable, lower-cost alternative to full-range rockets for high-volume live-fire training.
JR3 is being developed to increase training capacity for the Army and allied users while reducing ammunition costs. The round is intended to support launcher crew proficiency without consuming full-range operational munitions, a key issue as demand grows for more affordable live-fire exercises.
The latest test also signals continued development progress after the programme’s earlier demonstration. Lockheed Martin is positioning JR3 as part of a broader effort to support readiness with scalable training munitions for U.S. and international customers.
