Leeds Bradford Airport has submitted proposals to Leeds City Council to overhaul its night-flight rules as part of its wider LBA:REGEN transformation programme. The plan would replace a decades-old movement-based cap with a noise-based system, tighten the defined night period to 23:30-05:59 and keep the overall night-noise limit unchanged while encouraging quieter aircraft.
The package also includes a new Night Noise Insulation Scheme for nearby homes and community facilities. Eligible properties could receive grants for glazing, ventilation improvements and, in a notable addition, bedroom air conditioning.
Airport chief executive Vincent Hodder linked the changes to a push for quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft, alongside stronger community support around the airport. The proposals remain subject to council approval and represent a planning bid rather than a confirmed change to operating rules.
The application comes against the backdrop of the airport’s wider £200 million LBA:REGEN investment programme, which includes terminal works already under way through 2027. That broader upgrade is intended to reshape operations at the West Yorkshire airport while it seeks to balance environmental controls, local opposition and regional growth.
