LEAV Aviation will open a direct Cologne/Bonn–Deir ez-Zor service on 1 September with one weekly flight, linking the German airport with eastern Syria for the first time. Syrian aviation authorities say the route will be the first regular direct European airline service to Deir ez-Zor International Airport and the airport’s first scheduled European carrier.
The new operation extends LEAV Aviation’s Syrian network beyond existing links from Germany to other destinations in the country. It also comes after a new Germany-Syria air-transport framework was signed in July 2026, part of a broader reopening of direct air connections between the two countries. Deir ez-Zor airport resumed operations earlier in August after a long closure, and the scheduled Cologne/Bonn service adds a new international destination to the airport’s timetable.
Omar al-Husri, head of Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, was the public face of the announcement. Publicly available timetable information remains limited, but the route is confirmed to begin with weekly service and no additional operating details have yet been widely disclosed.
