LATAM Airlines Group will invest more than US$25 million to fit more than 60 new Airbus and Embraer aircraft with multi-orbit satellite Wi-Fi from SES. The rollout covers Airbus A320neo, A321XLR and Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, and LATAM Pass members will be able to access the onboard internet free of charge.
The project extends the carrier’s long-running connectivity partnership with SES and is intended to improve speed and stability by using satellites in different orbital layers. LATAM already has more than 250 aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi, including over 200 Airbus A320-family jets using 2Ku technology.
LATAM has not given a complete installation schedule for the fleet-wide rollout, although the programme is tied to incoming deliveries over the coming years. The E195-E2 is due to be the first of the new aircraft types to enter service with the system, followed by the A321XLR and additional A320neo deliveries.
