A LATAM Airlines Perú Airbus A320 caught fire shortly before departure from Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima on 19 October, disrupting flight LA2302 to Piura. Flames and smoke were reported around the aircraft’s left engine and wing area. Passengers were disembarked as a precaution, while airport emergency crews brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported and the flight did not operate as scheduled.
The aircraft was identified as registration CC-BFS. LATAM described the incident as an “unforeseen technical event” before takeoff and arranged assistance and alternative flights for the affected passengers. The airport’s operations continued after the emergency response.
The precise failed component and cause of the fire had not been established by 20 October. LATAM and the relevant authorities are expected to conduct a technical evaluation of the aircraft. Reports have not confirmed the number of passengers on board or provided evidence of an accident during takeoff, as the aircraft remained on the ground.
