Japan Airlines (JAL) and Japan Transocean Air (JTA) will raise international fuel surcharges for tickets issued in Japan from 1 November through 31 December 2026. The planned one-way charge for travel to North America, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania, excluding Hawaii, will increase to ¥62,000, while the revised levels will apply to JAL-operated and eligible codeshare flights pending approval by Japan’s transport ministry.
The adjustments are based on an average Singapore kerosene jet-fuel price of US$159.19 per barrel in August and September, converted at an average exchange rate of ¥157.61 to the dollar. The resulting benchmark of ¥25,089 would normally fall within Zone T, corresponding to ¥25,000. Government subsidies introduced as emergency measures related to the situation in the Middle East will allow JAL and JTA to apply the lower Zone S benchmark of ¥24,000.
The surcharge for Hawaii, Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka will be ¥38,500 per one-way sector. Charges for Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Novosibirsk will be ¥33,200, while Guam, Palau, the Philippines, Vietnam, Mongolia and Irkutsk will rise to ¥21,500. East Asia, excluding South Korea and Mongolia, will be charged ¥16,000, and South Korea, the Russian Far East and selected Okinawa-Taiwan routes ¥7,100.
The North American and European surcharge is ¥12,000 higher than the September-October level. The surcharge is added to the base fare and is subject to approval by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
