ITW GSE’s 90 kVA 7400 electric ground power unit can be specified with auxiliary outlets that extend its battery-powered role beyond supplying 400 Hz power to aircraft. The outlets allow the unit to charge electric ground-support equipment or power servicing tasks at locations where fixed electrical infrastructure may be unavailable. Airport operator and ground-handler interest includes SOUTH, an IAG Group handling company serving Iberia flights, which has bought 90 ITW GSE eGPUs for Spanish airports.
The optional connections comprise a 32A CEE outlet for equipment such as cargo loaders and a 16A outlet for activities including cabin cleaning and maintenance. Power use through the outlets can be monitored and tracked. At Madrid Airport, a 7400 eGPU has been shown charging a cargo loader.
For ground handlers, using the unit to recharge equipment at a remote stand could reduce journeys to central charging points and keep machinery near aircraft. Mobile battery capacity complements fixed airport power infrastructure rather than replacing it, particularly where equipment moves between stands, hangars and other work areas. The AUX option is available on CE versions of the 90 kVA 7400 and must be specified when ordering; it cannot be retrofitted.
