Indonesia expects first Chinese J-10 fighter jets around April 2027, reports

Indonesia is expecting the first Chengdu J-10 fighter jets from China around April 2027, following public remarks by Air Force Chief of Staff Air Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono. The timeline, first reported by Indonesian media and later picked up by international outlets, points to an initial delivery about six months after the comment in early October.

The number of aircraft in the first batch has not been disclosed. Harjono offered no schedule details when asked about the programme, and local reporting framed the timing as an expectation rather than an official delivery confirmation.

If the jets arrive as reported, Indonesia would become the first Southeast Asian operator of the J-10 and only the third export user of the Chinese-made fighter after Pakistan and Uzbekistan. The prospective acquisition has also drawn attention because of earlier reports that Indonesia had considered a much larger order, including claims of 42 aircraft backed by a budget of about $9 billion, although those figures remain unconfirmed by Jakarta.

The latest reporting adds a more specific delivery window to a story that has circulated for months, but key questions remain over contract status, financing and the size of the initial shipment.
