IndiGo will hold off on placing fresh large aircraft orders until around 2030, keeping its current pipeline in place while it evaluates the next wave of jet technology. Managing director Rahul Bhatia tied the timing of the next major purchase to the emergence of new-generation aircraft, as the carrier works with an order book of more than 900 jets and deliveries running well into 2035.
The airline’s fleet strategy remains anchored by its existing commitments, which give it room to expand without rushing back to the market. IndiGo operates more than 440 aircraft and is building long-haul capability alongside its core domestic network. Deliveries of Airbus A350-900 aircraft are due to begin in 2028, and the carrier has doubled that order to 60 jets with options for 40 more.
Bhatia framed the pause as a question of timing rather than capacity pressure, with the airline watching which manufacturers launch next-generation programmes and when. The approach leaves IndiGo positioned to delay another major commitment until it can compare new aircraft technologies with its long-term growth needs.
