GMF AeroAsia has secured a 20-year concession to develop and operate a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility at Muscat International Airport in Oman. The agreement, signed in Muscat during the Civil Aviation Investment Forum 2026, gives the Indonesian maintenance specialist a new base in the Middle East for heavy maintenance and periodic inspections of narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.
Under the deal, Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority will retain ownership of the hangar, provide the concession and oversee regulatory compliance, while GMF will build and run the hangar and related facilities in phases. The rollout is expected to follow market demand and an agreed business plan, suggesting operations will ramp up gradually rather than begin at full scale. Oman reporting indicates the facility is purpose-built and is expected to serve Oman Air first before expanding to third-party airline business.
The move extends GMF’s international MRO footprint beyond Indonesia and strengthens its access to customers across the Middle East, with reach also envisaged into Africa and Europe. GMF also signed a separate cooperation document with Mach Aerospace International to support aviation capability and human-resource development. Together, the agreements point to a broader effort to build local skills and deepen aviation-services activity around Muscat International Airport.
