Frankfurt Terminal 3 handles 4.4 million passengers since opening

Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 3 has handled about 4.4 million passengers since it began operating in April, as Fraport reports a successful start for the €4 billion facility. The terminal, in the airport’s southern area, is designed for up to 19 million passengers a year and remains below that capacity. Its first 57 airlines moved in through four waves, while Condor is due to transfer its full Frankfurt operation in April 2027.

The additional space has eased operations elsewhere at the airport, including in the north, Fraport chief operating officer Dietmar Focke reported. Aircraft now require less towing and repositioning, and passengers need long bus transfers less often. Fraport also recorded a summer punctuality rate of 73.4%, higher than the previous year’s level.

Condor’s move will be the next major change in the terminal’s airline roster. The carrier operates a hub at Frankfurt, where short connections and reliable passenger and baggage handling are important to its operation. The planned transfer follows the relocation of the 57 airlines from Terminal 2, completed in four waves after Terminal 3’s opening on 23 April.
