ForeFlight Adds SMS and FRAT to Flight-Planning Platform

Jeppesen ForeFlight has introduced Safety Management System (SMS) software and an integrated Flight Risk Assessment Tool (FRAT) for small and midsize business-aviation operators. The products extend the ForeFlight platform beyond flight planning by linking preflight risk assessments with hazard reporting, safety-risk management and assurance workflows. ForeFlight is demonstrating the capabilities at NBAA-BACE 2026 in Las Vegas.

ForeFlight SMS supports reporting of hazards, incidents, near-collisions and accidents through the web, ForeFlight Mobile or a QR code. Its tools include an ICAO-based risk matrix, a centralised risk register, corrective and preventive action tracking, internal-audit checklists and safety-performance dashboards.

The FRAT is included with the SMS subscription and allows operators to configure risk factors, weightings and thresholds. Users can assess baseline and residual risk, record mitigations and carry information from flight preparation into the wider SMS environment. Safety managers can then follow hazards through investigation and resolution, verify corrective actions and monitor recurring risks, open actions and overall safety status.

Jeppesen ForeFlight chief product officer Tim Schuetze described the products as a way for smaller operators to manage safety without adding complexity, while connecting safety workflows to operational data already captured in ForeFlight. The announcement does not specify pricing, customer-deployment timing or regulatory approval status.
