The FAA has proposed a rule that would let it waive parts of the environmental review stack for commercial launches, reentries and related space operations, a move aimed at cutting licensing timelines for operators such as SpaceX and Blue Origin. The proposal would allow exemptions from requirements tied to 13 federal laws, including NEPA, the Endangered Species Act and selected provisions of the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act, while leaving intact reviews tied to public health, safety, property, national security and foreign policy. The rule follows a Trump directive to accelerate space licensing and is now open to public comment for 30 days before any final decision.
