Cusco airport to suspend commercial flights for more than seven hours during papal visit

Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport in Cusco is scheduled to suspend commercial flights from 07:45 to 15:05 local time on 15 November, during Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the Peruvian city. Airport operator Corpac expects 14 flights to be affected by the security measure. The restriction will cover the pontiff’s scheduled 10:00 arrival from Chiclayo and his departure for Pucallpa at 13:05.

The Peruvian consumer-protection agency Indecopi is coordinating preventive measures with airline associations to protect passengers affected by schedule changes, modifications or cancellations. It has called for clear, timely information and appropriate passenger-support arrangements. Airlines are expected to coordinate itinerary changes and notify customers.

Passengers with flights to, from or connecting through Cusco that day should check directly with their airline for updates. Those who booked through a travel agency should contact it about their arrangements. The airport is a major gateway for visitors to the region, so the suspension may also affect onward connections and planned travel.
