Cessna Citation Gen3 programmes surpass 1,220 flight-test hours

Textron Aviation’s Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and M2 Gen3 programmes have accumulated more than 1,220 combined flight-test hours as they progress towards Federal Aviation Administration certification. The Wichita-based Textron company expects the CJ4 Gen3 to be the first of the three light jets to complete certification, targeted for 2026, while the CJ3 Gen3 and M2 Gen3 are expected to follow in 2027.

The CJ4 Gen3 accounts for nearly 1,100 hours across two test aircraft. Its campaign includes certification work on hot-weather performance and electrical systems, as well as testing of Garmin Emergency Autoland. The CJ4 Gen3 is intended to become the first light jet to enter the market with the capability.

The CJ3 Gen3 has logged more than 60 hours since its first flight in June, with current testing focused on landing performance and braking. The M2 Gen3 has accumulated more than 75 hours and is approaching simulated en-route emergency-activation tests covering airport selection and autoland to a full stop. The accumulated hours represent progress in the certification campaign rather than a new order, delivery or certification decision.
