Textron Aviation has flown the Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen3 prototype for the first time, moving the light-jet programme into flight-test work ahead of FAA certification. The sortie departed Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport on 29 July and lasted nearly two hours, with test pilots Steve Helmer and Dave Welbrock evaluating cockpit software. The aircraft reached 41,000 feet and 278 knots indicated airspeed, while the company said the flight validated months of preparation. With the CJ4 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and M2 Gen3 now all in test, Textron has its full next-generation Citation light-jet line advancing toward 2027 entry into service.
