British Airways goes super premium on A380 superjumbos

British Airways will retrofit its Airbus A380 fleet with all-new cabins, converting the entire upper deck to Club World and installing 106 business-class seats on each aircraft. The programme covers all 12 of the airline’s A380s and also adds a new First cabin, expanded premium economy and refreshed economy interiors, with the first refurbished jet due to enter service in the coming months.

The redesigned layout reduces overall capacity from 469 to 417 seats as British Airways shifts the superjumbos towards a more premium-heavy configuration. Each aircraft will carry 12 First suites, 106 Club World seats, 84 World Traveller Plus seats and 215 World Traveller seats.

The carrier has described the work as one of its most extensive onboard transformation projects, involving more than 35,000 individual parts per aircraft. The move places the A380 at the centre of British Airways’ long-haul premium strategy, with the aircraft set to become its flagship for higher-yield intercontinental flying.
