Azul has secured a financing facility of up to R$2 billion to fund aviation-fuel purchases for its regular domestic operations in Brazil. The transaction carries credit-risk coverage from the Brazilian government through the Agência Brasileira Gestora de Fundos Garantidores e Garantias, using resources from the Fundo de Garantia à Exportação. The facility is part of Azul’s broader restructuring plan and is intended to strengthen liquidity amid fuel-price volatility.
The proceeds are restricted to aviation fuel bought for domestic scheduled services. The government guarantee covers the operation’s credit risk; it does not represent a direct R$2 billion transfer to Azul, and the full facility may not be drawn.
Azul has not disclosed the financing’s interest rate, maturity, drawdown schedule or the amount released to date. The arrangement gives the airline additional flexibility to manage a major operating cost while fuel prices remain volatile, without directly reducing the price of fuel.
The financing follows other recent measures taken under Azul’s restructuring programme. It is separate from a BNDES airline-credit line, according to contemporaneous reporting, and provides liquidity specifically for fuel payments rather than general corporate spending.
