Anello Photonics has announced the X3 navigation package, a silicon photonics optical gyro that enables drones to navigate GPS-denied airspace without satellite signals. The chip-scale system replaces bulky, heavy fiber-optic gyros traditionally used for high-precision inertial navigation in contested environments, delivering a compact, low-power alternative with significantly reduced SWaP. Built on patented SiPhOG™ silicon photonic integrated circuits, the X3 maintains high-precision tracking while converting historically expensive optical gyro technology into a commercially viable, mass-manufacturable product. Backed by $28 million in Series A funding from Lockheed Martin Ventures and Catapult Ventures, the Santa Clara startup targets autonomous vehicles, defense, maritime, and industrial sectors where GPS jamming poses a critical threat to mission success.
