American Airlines will add Philadelphia-Vienna to its summer 2027 transatlantic schedule, using the Airbus A321XLR on the new route. The seasonal service is due to begin on 6 May 2027 and run into early January 2028, giving the carrier a new nonstop link to the Austrian capital and extending its Philadelphia Europe network.
Vienna is among a wider package of seven new international routes for next summer, with American also adding Porto from Philadelphia, plus new or expanded service on several other Atlantic and Pacific markets. The airline is leaning on the A321XLR to open thinner long-haul routes from Philadelphia and New York, a strategy that also includes Amsterdam and Nice from JFK. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale at the end of August.
The Vienna service stands out as a new destination for American and the only U.S. airline nonstop link to the city. Philadelphia continues to serve as the carrier’s principal transatlantic gateway, while the A321XLR allows it to deploy a smaller premium-configured aircraft on routes that may not support a widebody.
