American Airlines operated a commercial passenger flight using Infinium’s electro sustainable aviation fuel for the first time, with the fuel supplied from the company’s Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi, Texas. The blended fuel was delivered through standard airport fuel infrastructure before being used on a flight from Corpus Christi International Airport to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
The companies described the flight as the first delivery of eSAF to a commercial airport for use in a commercial passenger service. The fuel met ASTM International Jet A specifications and was mixed with conventional jet fuel, allowing it to be used in existing aircraft and fueling systems without modification.
Infinium’s Pathfinder plant uses waste carbon dioxide and renewable electricity to produce its power-to-liquids fuel. The company has positioned the product as a low-carbon alternative to petroleum-based jet fuel, with lifecycle emissions reductions of more than 90% versus conventional fuel.
American Airlines also has an offtake agreement for future commercial volumes of eSAF from Infinium’s Project Roadrunner. Citi is involved through a separate arrangement linked to Scope 3 emissions reductions from employee travel.
