Airbus has selected Scaleway, the Iliad-owned European cloud provider, as its strategic Trusted Cloud partner to host sensitive industrial and defence applications, initiating a migration of approximately 70 critical apps by end-2028 with up to 900 potentially covered over five to six years. The decision follows a competitive tender launched in January 2026 evaluating technical capabilities, operational excellence, and legal safeguards against extraterritorial legislation, marking a deliberate shift away from reliance on US cloud giants for workloads spanning aircraft design, engineering, and manufacturing execution systems. This sovereign cloud arrangement complements Airbus’s existing multi-cloud strategy while ensuring critical data remains under EU jurisdiction, supporting AI initiatives including tools developed with Mistral and reinforcing digital sovereignty priorities for defence and aerospace operators across the sector.
