AirBaltic bondholders approve deferral of August and November interest payments

AirBaltic bondholders have approved a temporary deferral of the airline’s August and November interest payments on its €380 million 14.5% bonds due in 2029, giving the Latvian carrier immediate liquidity relief as it pursues wider restructuring and fresh investment. More than 75% of participating holders backed the move at a meeting on 17 August, allowing the waived interest to be added to the principal under amended bond terms.

The package also includes a temporary waiver of the minimum liquidity requirement until 14 November and adjustments to reserve-account conditions. AirBaltic will therefore avoid two near-term cash outflows while preserving its flight programme, with operations continuing as planned. The vote provides breathing room for the state-controlled airline as it works through a broader financing process and seeks additional support. Latvian state backing remains part of the wider financial backdrop, including discussion of possible changes to a separate government loan.
