A 34-year-old passenger on an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Seattle has pleaded guilty in the United States to interfering with the crew after disruptive onboard behaviour escalated into threats and restraint of cabin staff. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 in a federal case before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
The incident took place on 19 June during the transatlantic service to Seattle. Court filings describe an onboard disturbance that began after alcohol consumption, when the passenger allegedly harassed a seatmate before grabbing a flight attendant and repeatedly threatening female crew members with sexual violence.
The case underscores the federal response to unruly behaviour on international flights, where interference with crew can trigger criminal charges as well as significant custodial penalties. The guilty plea is the latest development, moving the matter beyond the initial allegation stage and into sentencing proceedings.
