Aer Lingus A320 diverted to French air base after bomb alert

An Aer Lingus Airbus A320 flying from Dublin to Rome was diverted to Évreux air base in Normandy on Thursday, 5 November, after a bomb alert. The aircraft landed safely, and all 151 passengers and six crew members were moved to safety. French bomb-disposal teams were examining the aircraft; no inspection result or information about the source of the alert had been reported at the time.

The diversion took the scheduled international service to a military air base about 100 kilometres west of Paris. The French Air Force dispatched aircraft after the alert and escorted the A320 to Évreux. Aer Lingus said it would work to reaccommodate passengers at their destination.

The incident followed a series of bomb threats affecting European flights in recent days. Threats involving flights operated by Ryanair, Wizz Air, LOT and SAS had prompted diversions, emergency landings and searches. Earlier searches found no explosives, but authorities had not identified who was behind the threats.
