Thailand’s new long-haul airline has a contentious Russian connection

Siam Wings Airlines, Thailand’s new long-haul carrier based at U-Tapao Airport near Pattaya, began operations on 2 October with an Airbus A330-200 charter flight from Krabi to Novosibirsk. The airline is initially serving Russian package-tour traffic, with its first programme connecting Thailand with four Russian cities and reportedly carrying holidaymakers travelling through Pegas Touristik.

Siam Wings operates the A330-200 in a 345-seat configuration. Its first aircraft, registered HS-SYB, arrived in Thailand in July 2026 and had previously flown for Nordwind Airlines. A second former Nordwind A330-200, registered TC-GRA, was expected to join the fleet in mid-October.

The airline was incorporated in March 2023 with registered capital of 225 million baht, about six million euros. Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority granted it an Air Operator Licence in May 2025, followed by an Air Operator Certificate before the launch.

Between 2 and 15 October, Siam Wings operated nine charter flights linking Krabi with Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow and Yekaterinburg. The programme was expected to bring more than 3,000 Russian visitors to the Andaman coast.

Russian aviation and travel sources link Siam Wings to Pegas Touristik, which previously established Nordwind Airlines and Pegas Fly. The airline also appears to be taking over selected services previously operated by Nordwind, including winter flights to Phuket and Pattaya where the flight numbers reportedly remain unchanged while the carrier code switches from N4 to SHE. Neither Siam Wings nor Pegas Touristik has publicly confirmed the reported commercial relationship.
