Melbourne-based Microflite Group has ordered two Tecnam P2012 STOL aircraft for its Par Avion tourism operations in Tasmania. The 11-seat, twin-engine aircraft will support scenic and access flights to the remote Bathurst Harbour region and Melaleuca in the state’s south-west, including operations into Southwest National Park. The first aircraft is due to enter service by the end of January 2027, with the second scheduled for mid-2027.
Tecnam’s Australian representative, Hallmarc Aviation, facilitated the transaction. The order forms part of a stated AUD 13 million investment by Microflite in three aircraft: the two P2012 STOLs and a Cessna 206HD. The aircraft are intended to replace ageing types and expand access to remote destinations where short, including unsealed, runways and difficult terrain restrict aircraft selection.
Par Avion, which operates under the Airlines of Tasmania air operator certificate, has provided scenic and bushwalker flights to Melaleuca for more than 40 years. The Britten-Norman Islander has traditionally served the route. Tecnam certified the P2012 STOL in 2024, and the type holds EASA CS-23 and FAA IFR certification.
The deliveries are planned ahead of Tasmania’s 2027/28 summer season. Hallmarc expects the acquisition to increase the number of P2012 aircraft in Australia to seven, with further operators reportedly considering the type.
