Brussels Airport handles 2.36 million passengers in September

Brussels Airport handled 2.36 million passengers in September, nearly 4% more than in the same month of 2025, extending its run above two million travellers to six consecutive months. The Zaventem hub also recorded stronger freight activity, with more than 627,000 tonnes handled during the first nine months of 2026, while commercial aircraft movements increased year on year.

Passenger traffic exceeded 19 million between January and September, representing growth of 3.2% compared with the corresponding period last year. September commercial movements rose 2.3%, including a 2.5% increase in passenger flights and a 3.2% increase in cargo flights.

The airport’s busiest September destinations included Spain, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Morocco, Portugal, France, the United States and Switzerland. The passenger result followed the peak summer period, indicating that demand remained firm into early autumn.

Year-to-date freight volumes were up 8.1% from the first nine months of 2025. The available figures do not include a separate September cargo-tonnage total. If the current passenger growth rate continues, Brussels Airport could handle more than 25 million travellers in 2026, which would be the first time it has exceeded that level in seven years.
