PPG to invest $70 million in Huntsville aerospace transparencies expansion

PPG will invest $70 million, approximately €63 million, to expand its aerospace-transparencies operation in Huntsville, Alabama, increasing capacity for cockpit windshields and passenger windows used across commercial, military and general aviation markets. The project includes a new support facility that will free space for manufacturing at the company’s existing site and accommodate future equipment.

PPG plans to lease and fit out a 112,000-square-foot (approximately 10,400-square-metre) building for production-support functions. Moving those activities out of the current facility will create additional room for manufacturing equipment and future capacity expansion while improving operational efficiency.

The investment forms part of a series of multiyear projects supporting growth in PPG’s aerospace-transparencies business. The company is responding to increased customer demand for aircraft glazing products, including cockpit and passenger windows.

PPG has operated its Huntsville aerospace-transparencies facility for more than 55 years. The site serves commercial, military and general-aviation customers. No details were provided on additional jobs, production volumes, customer commitments or the completion and commissioning timetable.
