Nürnberg Airport temporarily suspended takeoffs and landings on Tuesday after a suspected in-flight emergency involving Corendon Airlines flight XR456 from Corfu, Greece. The Boeing 737 landed safely shortly after 12:15, accompanied by two Eurofighters, while police secured the airport and investigated an emergency transponder code. Checks found no danger, but operations resumed only gradually after the aircraft’s arrival.
The aircraft’s transponder transmitted an emergency code shortly before landing, although authorities had not established what triggered the alert. Passengers and crew remained aboard while police completed checks, and the airport was later cleared to reopen. The incident also disrupted local bus and underground services serving the airport.
Operations had already been affected earlier in the morning after three pilots independently reported seeing a possible drone near the airport. Police and aviation authorities found no drone or other object, and the two incidents were not confirmed to be connected. The earlier disruption delayed six flights, including two arrivals and four departures. Two inbound aircraft diverted temporarily to Cologne and Prague before continuing to Nürnberg.
