Nuremberg Airport resumes operations after Corendon emergency alert

Nuremberg Airport resumed normal operations on Tuesday afternoon after police cleared a suspected in-flight emergency involving Corendon Airlines flight XR456 from Corfu. The Boeing 737 landed safely at approximately 12:15 local time, escorted by German Air Force Eurofighters, and checks found no danger to passengers or crew. The response temporarily halted airport operations and delayed six flights.

The alert was linked to an emergency transponder code associated with a possible hijacking or other serious air emergency. The reason for its transmission remained unclear, although Bavarian public broadcaster BR reported that investigators suspected a technical defect. Police, airport personnel and German air navigation authorities carried out searches and other security measures after the aircraft landed.

Nuremberg Airport suspended takeoffs and landings for roughly two hours. Two inbound aircraft were diverted temporarily to Cologne and Prague before continuing to Nuremberg, while two arrivals and four departures were delayed. Flights were able to resume shortly after 13:30, following the police all-clear. The Eurofighters departed after the situation had been resolved, and authorities continued investigating the cause of the alert.
