Michalis Kouveliotis becomes CEO of Aegean

Michalis Kouveliotis has taken over as chief executive of Greek airline Aegean, effective 12 October, succeeding Dimitris Gerogiannis after 20 years in the role. The leadership change gives the Athens-listed carrier an internal successor with long-standing responsibility for its finances and business divisions, while Gerogiannis remains involved in the airline’s technical and training activities as an adviser.

Kouveliotis had served as Aegean’s chief financial officer since before the airline’s listing on the Athens Stock Exchange. He became deputy CEO in early 2025, coordinating the group’s business divisions as part of a planned transition to a new generation of leadership.

Gerogiannis, a founding executive who joined Aegean in its first year of operations in 1999, will oversee the airline’s technical base and training centre in his advisory role. Executive Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis described Kouveliotis as having demonstrated the ability to support Aegean through periods of growth and crisis, while his deputy CEO role helped prepare the succession.

The arrangement preserves Gerogiannis’s involvement in operational and workforce-development areas while transferring executive responsibility to Kouveliotis.
