JetBlue to launch domestic BlueFirst cabin as premium demand builds

JetBlue will introduce BlueFirst, its first conventional domestic first-class cabin, later this year, extending premium seating across U.S. routes outside its Mint network. The product will be available to book later this fall, with the first aircraft due to enter service before year-end.

BlueFirst uses a two-by-two layout and offers up to seven inches more legroom, five inches of recline, priority boarding, dedicated overhead space and expedited airport security at more than 30 airports. The fare product also includes two free checked bags, priority baggage delivery, premium snacks and drinks, and meal service on longer flights.

The cabin is designed for JetBlue’s non-Mint domestic fleet and will roll out across markets where the airline does not already offer its lie-flat Mint product. That positioning gives the carrier a more direct entry into the U.S. domestic first-class market, where legacy airlines continue to expand premium seating.

JetBlue is moving to capture more revenue from stronger premium-cabin demand while broadening the choice of onboard products available to travellers. The airline has not yet named inaugural routes or published pricing, and the exact sale date remains to be disclosed.
