FedEx will develop a new integrated air cargo hub at GMR Cargo City at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, in a long-term investment of about US$150 million. The fully automated facility will span roughly 230,000 square feet and combine the company’s international gateway with pickup-and-delivery operations under one roof, with capacity in Delhi set to rise from 600 packages an hour to 5,000.
The project will include an auto-sorter, new-generation X-ray equipment, enhanced security systems and intelligent package-handling technology. FedEx expects the hub to improve processing flow and operational efficiency while allowing the site to expand further as volumes increase. The facility is intended to strengthen links across North and East India and connect businesses in those markets with global trade routes.
The development is located within GMR Cargo City, a 50-acre cargo and logistics zone at Delhi airport designed to house cargo operators and allied services in one integrated environment. Detailed design for the first phase has been completed, enabling works have started and construction is due to begin shortly.
