Skyguide cuts planned redundancies to 50 after consultation

Skyguide will cut 50 jobs in its restructuring programme, far fewer than the up to 220 redundancies initially feared, after consultations with staff and unions in Switzerland. The first wave will involve 14 layoffs, with around 35 more expected in spring 2027, while the air navigation provider keeps its target of reducing about 200 posts and saving CHF51 million.

The lower redundancy figure follows a consultation process that drew 141 proposals from employees, trade unions and employee representatives. Skyguide has kept a broader restructuring plan in place, including a new organisational structure due to take effect in early 2027 and a reduction of its management board from nine members to five.

Early retirements, natural attrition, internal transfers, voluntary departures and non-renewals are expected to absorb part of the workforce reduction. Skyguide’s cost-cutting effort comes as the Swiss air navigation provider works to streamline operations in Geneva and Dübendorf while limiting compulsory job losses.
