WestJet completes legroom restoration on refurbished 737s

WestJet has completed the restoration of legroom on its refurbished Boeing 737s, finishing the reversal of a densified cabin layout that had drawn passenger backlash. The Calgary-based carrier has returned the affected aircraft to 174 seats from 180, ahead of its broader fall refurbishment timetable, while continuing its wider narrowbody cabin programme across Canada.

The work covered 14 Boeing 737-800s that had previously been fitted with an extra row as part of a 2025 densification push. WestJet moved to undo the change after criticism from passengers over the tighter seat pitch and reduced comfort in economy.

The refurbished aircraft now feature a refreshed interior and updated amenities, including WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS. The carrier’s legacy narrowbody refurbishment campaign is still expected to continue into 2027, with the latest completion arriving earlier than initially planned.
