Air Canada eases travel rules for passengers with mobility aids

Air Canada is expanding its mobility-aid travel policy, allowing customers to carry up to three qualifying mobility aids free of charge and adding app-based tracking for loading and unloading status. The Montréal-based carrier is also extending the change to adaptive sports equipment, while oversized items that cannot travel on the same aircraft will be moved within Canada by Air Canada Cargo at no extra cost.

The revised policy covers personal mobility aids, adaptive sports equipment and transfer devices such as personal or patient lifts. It applies to travel for work, leisure, medical reasons and adapted sport, reflecting a broader push to remove barriers for passengers who rely on specialist equipment.

Air Canada has framed the measure as part of its wider Accessibility Plan, alongside earlier investment in specialised lift equipment and employee training. The new tracking function is intended to give customers more visibility over whether a mobility aid has been loaded, reducing uncertainty at the airport and during transfer operations.
