Qantas to fit lie-flat Business Suites on future A321XLRs

Qantas will introduce lie-flat Business Suites on a future group of 16 Airbus A321XLRs, extending premium long-haul-style seating to a single-aisle aircraft for the first time. The cabin, due from 2028, is designed for longer domestic and short-to-medium international sectors, including east coast–Perth flying, while additional Boeing 787-9s will receive updated Business Suites with sliding doors and a larger lie-flat bed.

The A321XLR product will use a 1-1 herringbone layout with direct aisle access, a sliding privacy door, a 19-inch screen, wireless charging, USB-C power, storage and free Wi‑Fi. Qantas is positioning the cabin for sectors where flying time increasingly justifies lie-flat seating, while keeping the fitout separate from the rest of its A321XLR fleet.

The refreshed 787-9 Business Suite will feature 42 seats per aircraft, sliding doors, a wider footwell and a 19-inch entertainment screen. The airline is tying both cabins to a broader premium-cabin and fleet strategy as it matches seat type more closely to route length and aircraft role.
