Luxair has presented its first two company-owned Boeing 737-8 aircraft at its maintenance hangar at Luxembourg Airport/Findel, with Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works Yuriko Backes among the guests at the handover event. The jets are the first Boeing 737-8s owned by the carrier and form the opening phase of its fleet-renewal programme, which will also support longer routes such as Cabo Verde and Senegal.
The two aircraft are configured with 186 seats and are intended to reduce operating costs and environmental impact. Luxair places the fuel-burn advantage at about 20% compared with conventional aircraft of this type, alongside a noise footprint roughly 50% lower.
CEO Gilles Feith linked the delivery to a wider Boeing plan covering 12 new-generation 737-family aircraft, with options for two more. RTL reported that the broader fleet-renewal programme is valued at more than one billion euros over 10 to 20 years. The same report said Luxair received four Embraer E195-E2 aircraft in the first half of 2026 before the arrival of the two Boeing 737-8s.
